Summer Reading 2023

Welcome back! We are excited to hear about the great books you read over the summer. Students in grades 1 – 8, please turn in your summer reading logs during the first week of school. Individuals that completed summer reading logs will celebrate their accomplishment during an ice cream social with other students that also completed their list.

Summer Reading

Every summer our students are asked to read to help prevent summer slide. Below you will find the links needed for these assignments.

Ice Cream Social Summer Reading Log – Students in kindergarten through third grade are asked to read and record 10 picture books or 3-4 beginning chapter books. Students entering fourth through eighth grade are asked to read three chapter books.

Thank you! We hope you have a wonderful summer and look forward to seeing you on Wednesday, August 23rd.

Summer Work

Want to come back to school in the fall and attend our ice cream social?  If you answered yes, please take a moment and check out the information below.

Every summer our students are asked to read and complete math assignments (grades 4-8) to help prevent the summer slide. Below you will find the links needed for these assignments.

Middle School Reading (6-8) – We are asking all students to read at least three books over the summer and be ready to give a Book Talk (directions attached) when they return to school.

Mrs. Marcelino’s Ice Cream Social Summer Reading Log – Students in kindergarten through third grade are asked to read and record 10 picture books or 3-4 beginning chapter books. Students entering fourth through eighth grade are asked to read three chapter books.

Summer ALEKS assignments (4th-8th) – Students in fourth through eighth grade are asked to complete 8 ALEKS assignments over the summer with a score of 90% or higher. If students score lower, they can use the Quick Retake option to simply redo the problems they missed. Assignments can be found in the upper left-hand corner of ALEKS by clicking on the three lines and selecting “Assignments”. It is strongly suggested that students complete the 8 ALEKS topics before working on their personal pie if they are close to finishing their pie so as to not lose their work on the assignments.

Thank you! We hope you have a wonderful summer and look forward to seeing you on Wednesday, August 21st.

New Books in the library and more to come!

You asked and we heard you!   Many students have suggested books for the library and we have been able to add many of those requests along with several other great selections.  Here are just a few of the new books we have added to the library this year:

What’s Your Favorite Animal, by Eric Carle

We love the illustrations that accompany picture books!  In this book, Eric Carle and 13 other well-known children’s book artists share drawings of their favorite animals and tell us why they like the particular animal they chose.   What’s your favorite animal and how would you draw it?

Ghosts, by Raina Telgemeier

This graphic novel was a best seller at our October bookfair and is now available for checkout!

The Secret Life of Lincoln Jones, by Wendelin Van Draanen

This new acquisition for the middle school grades was written by the author of Flipped and Swear to Howdy.   I read the first few chapters and I’m hooked!  Be the first to read this title and write a review.

Catholic Schools Week!

What a fun week of celebrating Catholic Schools Week with all of you!

I am so blessed to get to work with such an amazing group of talented kids.

To celebrate our faith, I have pulled some of our favorite books about God and made a little display.  I hope you enjoy!
